How often should you clean a pickleball court?
Short answer: dry-sweep every day, wet deep clean about once a month for busy indoor courts, and every 3 to 6 months for lighter-use courts. Here's the full schedule for acrylic courts in the Philippines.
Daily: dry sweep
Your own staff should sweep or dust-mop the courts every day before first booking. This clears loose dust and grit before players grind it into the surface.
Monthly: wet deep clean
Acrylic courts get their grip from silica sand in the top coat. Sweat, sunscreen, fine dust and shoe rubber pack into that texture, and sweeping can't lift it. A wet scrub with a soft brush, followed by immediate water extraction, removes it. For busy indoor venues, court builders commonly recommend this once a month.
Every 3 to 6 months: lighter-use courts
Village, condo, school and private club courts that see fewer hours can stretch deep cleans to every 3 or 6 months. Outdoor courts may need more often during the rainy season because of algae.
Every 5 to 8 years: resurfacing
Acrylic coatings wear out. Regular cleaning slows the wear by keeping abrasive grit off the surface, which pushes your next resurfacing bill further out.
Signs your court needs a deep clean now
- Players slide at the kitchen line
- Shoe prints and scuffs stay visible after sweeping
- The colour looks dull or patchy
- Balls skid instead of bouncing true
- Green or dark patches on outdoor courts
What not to do
- Don't pressure wash. It strips the sand texture from acrylic.
- Don't wet mop. A mop spreads dirty water and leaves it to dry in the texture.
- Don't use harsh chemicals. Use a gentle cleaner made for floor scrubbers.
